The Freemen and Guilds of Chester Banquet Weekend took place recently, from Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th October 2014. It was a resounding success with a Pre Banquet Supper on the Friday evening in the New Private Dining room at The Mill Hotel in Chester. It was a pleasant informal occasion with an environment conducive to meeting up with friends once more and a choice of two courses.
The Annual Banquet on the Saturday evening was held in our recently refurbished Chester City Town Hall and was a more formal evening in splendid surroundings. All guests were well looked after by the acting Toast Master Nick Fry and lovely music was provided by a young lady harpist from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
On the morning of Sunday 5th October, at 10.15 am the Guilds party, including the Sheriff of Chester and his Lady, left the Guildhall and paraded up Watergate Street to the Cross and St Peter’s Church, our Guild Church. Our President, Canon Dennis Kelly, had organised both the Choir and Organist for the Service. Following the Special Day Blessing of the City by Father David Chesters the party processed back to the Guildhall.
