The Freemen and Guilds of the City of Chester escorted the Lord Mayor in the procession which is one of the country’s oldest and most colourful street parades, renowned throughout the Country. It was originally
organised by the City Guilds at Midsummer Eve and was first was recorded in 1498. It was then disbanded in the 1670s until its revival in 1989. The outstanding feature of the Parade were the Giants and there were enormous beasts, such as the Unicorn, Camel, Dragon said to be loosely based on contemporary records of the original parade.
